Abstract: European Parliament written question No E-1068/98 by Allan Macartney (ARE) regarding the implementation of the Timeshare Directive (94/47/EC) and the continuing problem of the abuse of verbal or written promises to buy back ownership of timeshare properties. The Commission points out that Directive 94/37/EC does not deal with general sales and marketing methods such as promises to buy back ownership from clients wishing to take advantage of resale services. This remains a matter within the competence of the individual Member States. The Directive covers only those aspects concerning the contractual transactions that relate to information or the component parts of a contract and the arrangements for the
communication of that information and the procedures for cancellation and withdrawal.
