The Timeshare Act 1992 defines timeshare as in fixed accommodation (and, with very limited circumstances, caravans). Boats are not covered by the Act giving 14 days cooling-off and no deposit.
SHARING SOME THOUGHTS WITH YOUBy George R***** - george*******@ntlworld.comA week's Narrowboat cruising with Canaltime out of Tamworth in November (2000) was a great holiday. Over many years I have cruised under sail across the North Sea from East Anglia, and in the Indian Ocean from Dar es Salaam, but now we are getting too old and stiff for such activity. Pottering along through the countryside under power is a splendidly relaxed way to continue messing about in boats. The Canaltime boats are very well fitted out with central heating, extensive cooking facilities including microwave oven, running hot and cold water, shower, 240V AC electrical supply. You have to run the engine for several hours each day to make sure the batteries are sufficiently charged for the night but that is no problem if you are interested in exploring as far afield as possible. We had excellent weather just after the rains that flooded the Trent Valley. The view looking down on the floods from the canal across to the Cannock Chase woods was memorable. Well dressed up in warm, waterproof clothing, including gloves, the temperature and rain while on deck were no problem. And always there was the warm cabin to relax in when 'off watch'. The standard of seamanship required is not great. Turning the boat round to go back the way you have come is the most difficult manoever, and you cannot do that often because the canal is too narrow to turn in. all together an excellent holiday for older boat-mad people and younger people with children. |
