Jargon Management at London Underground have found an intriguing way of exploiting ambiguities in language. During an enquiry into overcrowding problems, a spokesman told politicians that overcrowding was impossible because 'overcrowding refers to a situation of excess over a defined limit'.
There is no official limit on London Underground trains, so logically no limit can be exceeded. And, as the spokesman put it, any definition of a limit 'will inevitably include an element of subjectivity and semantic argument'.
