What's New at TimeshareUK.com ?

November 2007 Moved to new server. Anyone viewing files on http://www.timeshare.freeserve.co.uk will be looking at old data, and there's nothing I can do about it. Freeserve moved over to be run by Wannadoo; Wannadoo moved over to be run by Orange; my dial up account refuses to be accepted at Orange. Result is I cannot update or remove the freeserve files. So now http://TimeshareUK.com is on its own server, courtesy of a friend.

March 2006 Another major overhaul of the web site. August 2005 Completed a major overhaul of the web site, deleting broken links, slightly restyling pages, getting uniformity of the header across all pages, adding in sections for variable text using javascript.

2004 Abuse of free boards caused a re-think. Atomz search involved in some sort of takeover by Google, so now all searches done for this site have Google paid-for adverts slyly inserted into them. What I think of this is not printable.

Figures to 1/8/2003
thecounter.com ceased free site stats on 1/8/04, so after 3 years the visitor figures were:
231450 UK Air Travel = 12452
231453 Buyers Guide To Timeshare (UK) = 29749
231468 Timeshare Exchange Orgs = 13978
231475 Help and Advice in Timeshare = 7064
231477 Hotel Information UK = 4355
231486 Lake District, England= 11856
231488 London = 17588
231494 Timeshare resorts of UK = 20668
251355 Developers =4847
259373 CR-dev = 13733
259376 Scotland = 21158
259379 Wales = 5593
259383 Rail = 18059
259794 Sell Timeshare = 28163

July/August 2003thecounter.com stopped its free counting service, so pages had to be updated to keep current. Added in extra help for surfers clicking on Search. Better incorporation of travel service. Paypal and Fastpay links added to the existing kagi.com payment options.

June 2003 Fix problems of renditions on some pages for older versions of MSIE browsers.

January 2003REDESIGN! Change the present look of the pages to as you see it now. Lower case tags, edit URLs, text, and major update, new pages, less scrolling, hopefully a less cluttered look. Paid for ads introduced Dec 2002, New free ads boards to go live with new look web site. , (Bravenet seemed to be taking a tad to long to load up. A year of Sundays and I should have it all done! Here's what we used to look like

10 April 2002 Lots have happened in the past year. Listbot closed as a free service so the new newsletter goes out from yahoo, if I get time to do one. Jobs In timeshare runs off http://clix.to/timesharejobs and is good use.

In the industry timeshare points at RCI has taken a hold, with mixed reports about the fairness/unfairness of it, depending on resort owned at and whether members reside in the UK, South Africa, or USA.

Currently updating broken links on TimeshareUK.com via Xenu Link Sleuth. I am amazed how fast this link checker runs. Incredible speed. And it was a free download. Trouble is I have to manually go through all the pages on the site and delete bad links or otherwise spend time finding the new links. (sigh)

9 April 2001Redesign of selecta.html, adding more content to this index, and a quick website pull out guide (abandoned for less clutter later) Games section added starting with snake and tetris - idle and sometimes compelling activity! Added Report on timeshare sales reps, newspapers on timeshare and a court case on timeshare.

26 February 2001 The biggest change was over the past weekend. InsidetheWeb.com hosted most of the sites Noticeboards which had included categories for europe sales, us sales, rest of world sales, exchange, rent, wanted, monitoring club la costa, and spain. Insidetheweb.com announced that after 5/March/2001 they would be closing down. So I have set up new boards bravenet.com, and rescued the messages on InsidetheWeb. Redesigned the entrance to the boards at Notices/index.html. A lot of the commercial content has gone now. It was not doing anything except taking up my time in maintenance and endless emails from merchants. I have started Timesharing ezine managed on listbot.com - the first one went out on 4/10/200 and the circulation is growing and hopefully keeping people coming back. One or two people have bought ESITR after reading the intro on the website. Experimentation has been done with changing around the background to web pages via CSS and I will doubtless keep on changing it as whim takes me. Also some changes made around the web site to enable Netscape Navigator 4.5 to see the content.

After using Whatyouseek free search engine for some time, I have now installed another free one from Atomz.com - the advantages being it is free from unwanted advertising and I can customise the results page exactly how I want it. My Empirical Studies in Timeshare Resales was long overdue as a Zip file. Now it is done. Internal links checked. Some dodgy reports from link prover to links that seemed to work quite satisfactorily with the manual method.

HTML Shrinker is a bit too clever. Had a few problems with code getting screwed up, but I think I have most difficulties mastered. New Index.html page offers users a musical, frames or no-frames entry to the website. A castle greets visitors to website with doors, and index page has extra coding for search engines. I always liked the musical entry, but some feedback was not positive. CSS now in most pages, perhaps using too much CSS code makes things too complicated. Now offering daily news categories in Timeshare, travel industry, consumer travel, airline industry. Divided up air.html to 5 pages from one. Frames option gave me a lot of work in redesigning most pages. Heck, was it worth it?

30 June 2000
Having discovered HTML Shrinker, LinkProver and metaWizard, I can now make my HTML hand written files 4% to 20% smaller, get my links checked out for free and make my keywords more succinct. I am also updating files to work off Cascading style sheets. With this in mind some files have had the treatment done to them and others will follow as and when I get a chance. We took our family timeshare holiday in Tenerife and this is now written up with photos.

11 May 2000
Redesigned Noticeboards eliminating frames. Used PhotoShop to create some "noticeboards". Added new boards for North American and Rest of World Resales.

2 May 2000
Just completed a massive overhaul of website pages, matching the html tags properly. Visited Chessingtonand added pages of theme parks information. Hassle from THECOUNTER.com from inaccurate statistics being collected due to slowness of their equipment. Seems that all counters need to be reapplied for if they are to be accurately recorded. Timeshare locations added to the various pages for the UK regions and the old clumsy Map.html will redirect to new location. Redirects added to some of the older poorly designed pages. Easter egg background replaced on most pages.

31 March 2000
The section on Ads and domain name sales has been recoded using Arachnophilia, HTML tags now match up properly, counters have been added to each of these pages from NEDSTATS. Application has been made to Afternic.com to host the names so that anyone keying in those names will be diverted directly to Afternic and statistics collected there. NEDSTAT Counter added to chat board home page . pge.html and select.html upgraded with Whatuseek search engine in HTML format.

28 March 2000
Domain Names owned now expanded to include TimeshareUK.com and site is being improved to a site worthy of dot com status. Hosting arranged.

- index.html now contains the GO TO opening pop-up box, GO TO page (select.html) has an added Whatuseek search tool. GOTO popup box removed from pge.html

Wales.html and Sco.html (Scotland) now have webrings added to them. Wales has timeshare resorts on it, and new spring background. Advised Welsh webring master about the images (they were .bmps !) and sent him some smaller files, also added a special link to his photos of Aberystwyth.

Notices/index.htmlnow developed as a frame page for notices. Reinstated a guestbook in this area. Added counter to Ads/TimeshareInsurance.html . Under development is Map/index.html as a frame page for the existing Map.html which is a bit unweildy in present format.

Changed crown resorts board to a general costa del sol board, also accessible from Notices/index.html

Still hoping for some jokes to go on laugh.html via the submission form included there. I have the code for a laugh ring but the image files from them seem to be missing. Querying the ringmaster on need for images anyway.

Ran top layer files from AB.html through to Buy.html in Arachnophilia and discovered lots of mis-matched HTML tags. Not life threatening, but resolved conflicts anyway. Hoping for time to go through all files like this.

10 March 2000
- Some minor changes to pages. Redirection methodology of some pages has been altered after reading help pages at CNET. London page is now several pages in a separate directory and expanded to include part 1 of 3 about slang. Opening page pge.html is improved immensely. It now includes links to some domain names I invested in, a travel news headlines section, reorganised page to put counter outside of tables. When pge.html opens, it also auto-opens a web-site navigation box for the 90% of users who are javascript enabled. New javascript snowscene on newly organised Lake District section. Gradually getting all pages on site away from totally black backgrounds to a blue-check box background with black background tables. Added webrings to appropriate pages, in London, Lake District, Rail, and Travel Ring to pge.html . Crown section updated to present external links in a new browser window.

8 Jan 2000.
Incorporated drop-down menus for Javascript enabled browers. Keep meaning to change crown resorts board to a general costa del sol board.

15 Nov 1999
New Message Board for Crown Resorts added.

14 Nov 1999.
This weekend I gathered up all the Crown resorts pages put them in a folder of their own and arranged them to be displayed within a frame.

14 Nov 1999.
You know, I keep meaning to add a what's new page to this web site. But I never seem to get around to it. Fact is I am always tweaking bits here and there, adding the odd link, nicking someone else's javascript and incorporating it, thinking how my pages might be redisplayed, what features I might add.
